Frequently Asked Questions

Q:  What kinds of activities are offered at your camp?
A:  Feeding animals, egg collecting, dodge ball, horseback riding, tennis, bows and arrows, swimming, canoeing, and much more!  We emphasize skills rather than competition.

Q:  What is the camper to counselor ratio?
A:  One counselor to eight campers.  Most of our counselors are adults, many that went to camp here themselves!

Q:  What if it is hot out?
A:  We eat popsicles, we provide ice water and cold juice, turn on the sprinklers, do more swimming, or catch some shade under our huge pecan trees.

Q:  What if it rains?
A:  We usually welcome the rain as a relief from the heat and continue our daily activities as long as it's not storming.  We also love to play soccer in the front pasture, but can take cover under our shelter to keep us dry in the rain as we as tell stories or put on skits.

Q:  What about health and safety requirements?
A:  Accidental medical expense will be covered by our health insurance for excess charges over and above any collectible insurance the family may have in either personal insurance or under group coverage.  In addition, our water and sanitation have been approved by the NC State Board of Health and the Pender Co. Health Dept.

Q:  What if my child gets hurt at camp?
A:  We have all First Aid materials on hand at all times.  The Camp Director and other counselors have current certifications in CPR and Community First Aid Safety.  In the case of an emergency, the town of Burgaw has an efficient hospital six miles away with dependable rescue service.

Q:  What should my child bring to camp?
A:  A sack lunch, swimsuit, towel, jeans and shoes (for horseback riding).  We have separate wash houses for girls and boys with showers, sinks, and toilets. Best to label everything your camper brings as we end up with lots of lost and found.

Q:  Can campers bring fishing rods?
A:  Campers love fishing in our pond and we have plenty of worms for bait.  You must provide your own simple rod with single hooks only.  The barbs should be bent down, and please no large tackle boxes or knives (nail clippers only). PLEASE NO TREBLE HOOKS!

Q:  Can we come to your farm for a party?
A:  Yes!  Ashton Farm is perfect for birthday parties, field trips, and other special events.  Contact us to find out how we can help make your next event memorable.
